there is/was an AWESOME place in OB, about 2 doors from the black pearl on voltaire...sounded like 'utopia'...it was tiny, and they grew wheatgrass above the door outside. the most *amazing & unbelievable* pizza wrap-- completely vegan-- everything in the place was vegan. it is/was just incredible-- hope it's still around!

The tastiest Indian cuisine I have found. This is a great place to go for exotic cuisine. The owner is a very pleasant man "Jesse", always happy to see children. This is fine place for meat eaters and non to enjoy good quality food. I could live off the Lentil soup and Kabuli Naan alone. You can park across the street after business hours for free I think. It is on 4th ave. Check out www.indiaprincess.com
When you go make sure you check out all the beautiful pieces on the walls, he really put his heart into this restaurant. It is worth trying out!

I stopped by with two friends after walking my dog on the beach on Coronado Island. We shared an Avocado soup and an entrée that was really ground cauliflower covered in salsa with some crackers on the side. They were both so bland that I had to ask for Nama Shoyu and cayenne pepper to add any flavor at all. I asked the server to talk to the owner/chef to giver her feedback but she was on the phone. The entire time I was there (45 minutes), she never came out to speak to us. AND THEY SERVE MEAT!!!

As most anyone who is a vegetarian in San Diego already knows, this city has precious few meatless restaurants and even fewer that are any good. Some that we had in the past like the over-priced "Kung Food" have long since vanished. Well vegetarians take heart! We now have an new one which is not only low-priced but gourmet quality as well. As anyone who is familiar with Indian restaurants probably already knows, they usually have plenty of vegetarian-friendly items on the menu anyway. We now have one that is exclusively meatless.
KER at LITTLE INDIA (9520 Black Mountain Rd.) is located in a small set of shopping plazas that are rapidly becoming San Diegos "Little India". There are now about six or seven Indian restaurants within a one block radius there (and a new one opening soon). All of them are well worth trying. The current newest one though is the focus of this post. Like most of the Indian restaurants in any city, Ker has a lunch buffet. This one is a little different though in that it is entirely meatless. Don't let that deter you even if you aren't a vegetarian. The food there is so good that you will never even miss the Tandoori Chicken! This is in fact some of the best Indian food currently available in San Diego. If you've never experienced the oddysey of flavors that make up an Indian meal, you owe it to yourself to try this place. One small caveat though. Ker looks a little odd when you first walk in. It is located in an old warehouse building and is also a giant Indian grocery store. It may not look like a "regular" restaurant but trust me, this place is fantastic!

Not sure why KI's isn't listed. I know they serve some meat dishes but there are many veg choices, and it's very good.

Although this restaurant is on the Happy Cow listing, the only vegan option we found was a pizza. The location is nice with a small outdoors patio, but don't expect a full vege/vegan menu.

It was shock I felt when I arrived at this restaurant. When I saw that the restaurant also serves mass amounts of animal flesh like: "The Guilty Melty": turkey, salami, bacon, american, provolone, oil & vinegar tomato and onion served on a bun. Smelling all the ham and cheese and pastrami sandwiches ruined my experience and every vegan and raw foodist should be prepared for this alarming fact beforehand. And, btw, the raw food didn't have the kind of flavor and zest you expect at a raw food restaurant.

Waitress told me (vegan, 5 years) and my brother (newly vegan) to go to Fuddrucker's (hamburger joint across the street) when we complained politely about the strange soggy $10 zucchini pasta. We had gone out of our way to bring them repeat business and refer other vegans, but as it stands, I will not visit again. Hopefully others will heed my warning of the snobby service and overpriced under flavored food.

Typical Californian naturalist environment. Their soups are the best ones in the world!! I would return every time I visit San Diego.

my wife and i are vegan, and we drive an hour and a half down to pokez every-other weekend or so. it is hands-down the best mexican food available for vegans. the burritos are about as big as your head, and cheap too. an average plate is about $5 or so, and will fill you up for a week. try the vegan tofu burrito with "ranchero sauce" on top. also try the vegan fajitas, amazing! the atmosphere is really casual and counter-culture. one tip: the bathroom is back in the kitchen. meat eaters and non-meat eaters alike love this place. they have all kinds of brew if that's your thing, and a full bar next door. seating is sometimes a few minutes wait during peak hours. the waitresses are volunteers, but still manage excellent service.
