There is an awesome Vegetarian Cafe in Merced called New Stars Vegetarian Restaurant. It's a small Bistro type place with indoor/outdoor seating. The menu is Asian but it boasts 100% Vegetarian with some Vegan faire. With the building of a brand new University of California (the largest I think) the atmosphere is definately evolving in Merced for the better for Vegetarians. They even serve a pretty tasty Kung Pao Tofu at the new UC. And, you can take it to go and enjoy watching the sailboats while sitting in the shade of some very large eucalyptus trees and enjoy the cool onshore breezes at nearby Lake Yosemite. Awesome!

Welcome to California, Here you will find pockets of progessive minded liberals who share your taste for healthy vegetarian foods. Some cool cities to visit are: San Francisco & the Bay area, Santa Cruz, and the West Los Angeles areas. If you have access to a car, take the Pacific Coast Highay and cruise the coastline for breathtaking scenery.

I discovered that there are no farmers markets up here and no listings for vegetarian or vegan resturants. Palmdale recently opened a Trader Joes but not Whole Foods. This is a rather Large area and it seems almost strange that there is so little in the way of organic around here. If anyone knows of more resources for this area...i.e. organic farms etc... please holler. Thanks
