Paignton, Devonshire. Help!!!

inuit Posted by inuit at 06/25/2009
Hi! I'm spanish and I'm going to travel this summer to the UK to study and improve my English :)

Yesterday the company I'm travelling with sent me some information of the place I'm going to stay... it's called Paignton, in Devonshire (England), in the southeast.

I've been searching in the internet but it's getting difficult to find vegan places to eat there, and I'm starting to think I'm going to die of hunger! hahaha :)

Anyone here could help me? Plase, I'm desesperate! I really hope you all could understand this message, but anyway sorry for my bad english!

Thanks a lot!!

Hi, the following may be useful:

1. You can type in your location on Happy Cow and look for places to eat within a set distance- here’s what comes up for within 10 miles Paignton, most are less than 4 miles from Paignton.

http://www.happycow.net/disp_results_address.php?distance=10&address=paignton&x=0&y=0

There is a mix of restaurants/cafes and some shops if you are going to buy food to prepare yourself.

Please note one of the reviews mentions ‘Seeds Bakery’ Totnes and says they sell vegetarian sandwiches- here’s the link

2. Here’s a journey planner to check public transport times:
http://www.travelinesw.com/journeyplanner/enterJourneyPlan.do

Totnes is 7 miles away but it looks like the bus journey would only be half an hour, same for bus to Brixham, about 40 minutes.

3. There is a pub called the
The Isaac Merritt
54–58 Torquay Road
Paignton
Devon
TQ3 3AA (map)
Phone: 01803 556066

Here is their menu- they are not vegetarian but they do have a sweet potato chickpea and spinach curry on the menu that says it’s suitable for vegans if ordered with extra popaddums instead of naan bread. They also do baked potatoes and beans.

4. Supermarkets:

Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s is a British supermarket chain- they sell various items for vegans and they are clearly marked as suitable for vegans, just look for the small label on the packaging. http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/storelocator/searchresults.htm?query=paignton

The Co-op
The Co-Op or cooperative is another supermarket chain- they also label items that are suitable for vegans-
238 Totnes Rd, Paignton - 01803 559178

Have a good trip
Louis
