Food dyes=Animal testing?

purplemonkey Posted by purplemonkey at 03/05/2009
According Happy Cow's page about animal ingredients, "Widely used FD&C and D&C colors are coaltar (bituminous coal) derivatives that are continously tested on animals due to their carcinogenic properties."

Does that mean that when I buy products containing dyes and lakes (eg. Red 40 lake, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Yellow 6 lake, Blue 1 lake), I support animal testing? I know they're unhealthy, but I really like things like Apple Jacks, Dum Dun lollipops, and other snacks listed on PETA's "I Can't Believe it's Vegan" page. I'm concerned because some of the ICBIV snacks contain Red 40 and such.
