In the early part of his career, Redford appeared on television shows and in the theatres on Broadway. He was nominated for the Emmy Award as best supporting actor in The Voice of Charlie Pont (1962). Redford became more well-known after his appearance in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid co-starring Paul Newman.
Redford directorial debut in the 1980s movie Ordinary People earned him an Academy Award. Other films he has directed included A River Runs Through It, Quiz Show, The Legend of Bagger Vance, and others.
