About 10 years ago I ate in Restaurant de Bolhoed in Amsterdam, a vegetarian restaurant. Bob was in the window seat having lunch and stroking the friendly cat.

Bob Dylan has never been a vegetarian.

He has had contracts where vegetarian food was specified, but this was for others, not for him personally.

He was in the 70s. Read his book "Tarantula" where (quite self-mocking) he talks about his "last song against meat" sent to "the Vegetarian Convention".

On tour in 1980/81 he reported had a cook and carried wholefood suppies (dried beans etc..) Bob Dylan was certainly not vegetarian in the mid 1980s. On the set of the film Hearts of Fire he was observed eating an English breakfast of sausages, bacon etc. He also drank Tequila. An interviewer mentioned this. His tipple on stage recently is herbal tea!

He was, like many a vegetarian in the sixties, but stopped practicing in the mid-70's. That's where all the confusion comes from. He was for a while but now is not as far as I know.

Hi Tabi,

That article was from back in 1999! Have you found anything more recent?
Let us know. Thanks.

Here's an article about Bob Dylan's mother from a newspaper in Duluth, MN. She mentions that "he does like chicken every way."

Bob is listed on many vegetarian sites as one of us but I have yet to see a quoted source or an anecdote to support this claim.

In Google'ing "Bob Dylan Vegetarian" I find many sources mentioning that he's veg, including:
IMDB-
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001168/bio
and others...
http://www.netglimse.com/celebs/pages/bob_dylan/index.shtml

Does that mean it's so? No... but I also haven't seen any articles stating that he isn't.

What is the source? I am a long time Dylan "freak" and have not read any evidence that he is a vegetarian. I did read an article that mentioned that he was eating chicken during the meeting. (That particular author was curious as to whether Dylan kept kosher; he decided he didn't.)

I am a sometimes fan of Bob Dylan. I own many of his albums, though I don't listen to them so much these days. And I didn't get his son's albums (The Wallflower... what's his name?).
